June News
We recently received a lovely email from Linda Molloy-Nash owner of a half sibling to Grisham, a gelding named Koolrasta Park Shamus who is also out of the same Dam as Grisham, Springfield Constance. The pair are currently competing at PSG/ Inter 1 level in NSW and Linda has owned Shamus since he was a weanling and brought him on herself. She tells us how incredible his movement is and what a good easy temperament he has had throughout his career. It is so lovely to hear of more succes from such a beautiful Australian line.
If anyone else knows or perhaps owns a related sibling to Grisham please contact us as we'd love to hear any news.
DVDs and Stud Cards are now available for both Grisham and Highfield Vivaldi so please contact us for a complimentary copy to be sent to you.
Highfield Vivaldi is well and truely into his fittness regime ready for some outings in July. Our trusted jockey Deon Stokes has managed to fit in 3 Horse Trials for us which we are extremely grateful for as this year is proving Deons busiest yet with many rides for other clients and a full string of Eventers himself. We are readily anticipating H.Vivaldi first run in July.He is now 17 yrs old but seems to be fitter and going better than ever.Must be that hardy Trakehner/TB blood
A reasonable quiet month for the stud .The mares are steadily getting on with their pregnancys and pending foals and weanlings have now been sold or growing on well with the grass that has now finally come through.
We have already received the first bookings of the year to both stallions. Please dont forget that if you are thinking of breeding to either of our boys this coming year you are entitled to the Early Bird Discount on all bookings recived by July 31st.Not long to go and you will save 12% on all service fees.
We also have a few beautiful WB foals still available to purchase in utero on one of our unqiue contracts. Please see our For Sale page or ring us direct for further details.Dont miss out on such a great opportunity to aquire a stunningly well bred performance foal for a fraction of the price.
I also say a sad good bye to a very trusted and loyal member of my broodmare band the beautiful grey Deep Reach.Deep has been purchased by showjumper Glen Adams of Bunbury,WA in foal to Grisham and we wish them all the best of luck for the future.Deep will carry on producing top performance foals for Glen and his wife Christine I am sure and I look forward to hearing how they are getting on with Deep and her new arrival (due end of August).

Totally Tolilas-
Record-breaking dressage stallion Moorlands Totilas has been confirmed as a starter at next month's World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen.

Subsequently Toilas is favourite to win at the Aachener Soers. Gal and Totilas will take part in the Grand Prix, Prize of the Teschinkasso, on Thursday, July 15th, in the Meggle Prize on Saturday and in the Deutsche Bank Prize, the Dressage Grand Prix of Aachen, on Sunday.

Moorland Totilas has done it again!!
Providing a full display of his goose-bump creating gaits, Moorlands Totilas was ridden by Edward Gal to victory in the Exquis World Dressage Masters Grand Prix Friday before a crowd that held its collective breath in the black stallion's first outdoor competition since last August's European Championships.
This WDM competition was also the first for Edward and Totilas since claiming their first World Cup title two months ago and only the third show in Germany since starting Grand Prix last year.
Despite a couple of mistakes that Edward said were a combination of rain that caused mud to be thrown up into the horse's belly and crowds drawn to watch every step Totilas takes, they recorded a score of 81.958 per cent, Fellow Dutch rider Adelinde Cornelissen on Jerich Parzival was again the bridesmaid but not far behind on 79.404 per cent, and Isabell Werth on her 2007 World Cup champion mount, Warum Nicht FRH, in third place with 75.76.255 per cent.
The CDI5* carries €100,000 (US$126,000) in prize money plus a €25,000 (US$31,500) Nurger WDM Rider Award, which Edward is now in an almost unbeatable position to collect. The rider award was launched after the inaugural Exquis WDM in Munich in 2009, and includes scores from the other venues, Cannes, France; Hickstead, England, and Palm Beach, Florida.
The unseasonably cold and wet weather did not dampen fan ardor for Totilas, that, Edward explained later, made the horse more tense than usual.
Totilas has become such a superstar not unlike a movie celebrity that organizers of Pferd International at Munich competition in the 1972 Olympic equestrian stadium had to hire extra guards around the clock when the stallion arrived from his home in The Netherlands and residents around the show grounds came by to look at their new world famous neighbor for a week.
So adoring are the fans in Germany--the two previous Grand Prix shows were Stuttgart and Neumunster, but he also competed small tour in Aachen-- that barely a conversation or speech can be gotten through without a reference to the Gribaldi offspring who created new world record scores in both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle as a nine-year-old in 2009.
The fans turned out in force Thursday for light work and then Friday for the Grand Prix and its €10,000 (US$12,600) prize money. The €30,000 (US$37,000) Grand Prix Special is scheduled for Saturday and the €60,000 (€74,000) Grand Prix Freestyle for Sunday. Clipmyhorse.de will provide live coverage over the Internet of all competitions while Sport 1 will broadcast a highlight program 11:45-12:45 on Saturday, May 22.
During the warm up, Edward said, Totilas became "quite excited" as crowds packed around the arena. Then, the horse had to walk from the warm up to the competition arena--not much more than 30 yards (meters)--but a throng that was more like an Academy Awards red carpet appearance minus the presidential-level security than a horse show.
"There was so much going on around the arena," Edward said later, "working with the crowds standing next to the ring and then having to walk through the crowds to the competition arena excited him. But it's OK. He'll get used to it."
Because he has not shown outdoors since last August, the horse startled himself when his extravagant gaits kicked up rain-soaked footing into his belly.
That came out in mistakes going into the first piaffe and then a transition to passage where he broke into a canter.
Even so, they still garnered a rare score of 10, but not in the frequency of the competitions in England in 2009, first at Hickstead and then at Windsor in the European Championships.
"Maybe we need to show more outside in the rain," he said. "We work outside at home, but it's not the same as being at a show."
Edward made no excuses, saying he loved riding Totilas in front of crowds that appreciated the horse's brilliance and applauded his success.
The crowd in the dressage area of the sprawling show grounds that this weekend includes international jumping, reining and vaulting as well as a huge shopping area did just that. The combination received a resounding ovation when they rode around the arena before the start of their ride. For most of the ride, there was almost complete silence, only the errors causing intakes of breath and "oh, no" in hushed tones. Then, loud applause from the crowd that refused to leave for more than 20 minutes until after the awards to celebrate Totilas.
A special feature of the Munich show Friday was a dressage horse breeding symposium, called "Servant or King," and organized by Jacob Schmid for WDM. It brought together some of the world's top specialists to discuss the marriage of sport and breeding. The symposium, aimed at promoting knowledge exchange, was sponsored by ViaGen of the United States, a leader in commercial animal gene banking and cloning services.

May News
May kicked off with a super start back to the show ring for me (after having time off to have my babies).
I decided to take the gorgeous Grisham for a day out at the anual WA AWHA Gala show held at a very nice venue at Orange Grove H&P club.
Despite this being Grishams very first apperance out in public (other than for collection at the vets!) he was perfectly behaved; a credit to his fine temperament and manners.
It was a little disappointing that numbers were low in the Senior sections, Grisham also being the only one in his class but he did have some competition in the Supreme of Show and went on to take the title for 2010!
"Supreme of Supreme AWHA Senior Exhibit 2010"
I am thrilled with this result and I really must thank the committee for such a superbly well run show.If there was ever a show to go to this is the one.Its is very quiet and stress free and a great one for first timers and youngstock.
It was nice to see that they also flew over an Eastern States Judge, President of NSW AWHA and co owner of Hollingrove Stud, Mr Bruce Williams.
Thankyou to the sponsors who gave a beautiful woollen day rug,a a bottle of bubbly and also a HUGE garland.Thankyou also for making me feel so welcome back to the show ring by the many wonderful comments and mentions throughout the day and a lovely phone call after from a committe member thanking ME for bringing Grisham to the show!!How lovely is that!
A few photos of the day taken by my lovely friends,Leonie,Hannah and Max.

March News
Congratulations are in oder to Emily Marston of Armani Downs stud for the recent Trakehner verband assesment of her colt Armani Phantasie.
Phantasia is By Highfield Vivaldi out of Emilys lovely Lutz mare One Night in Paris.
He scored 66.5 % for his conformation and 69.5 for Movement making a grand total of 68%.Phantasie was sadly the only H.Vivaldi progeny put forward for the Trakehner Verband so a special thanks are in order for Emily for making the effort in taking him along.
This was Paris' first foal and it was rather a stressful pregnancy with Paris picking up a visus in the last trimester and needing antibiotics until the birth.Poor Phantasie aka "Digby" was a little underdone and it didnt help matters that Paris wasnt producing quality milk.Digby is not quite as well grown as he should be of a colt of his age but he is a gorgoeus friendly chap and a real mini me of his Sire H.Vivaldi sporting the now common colourings of lots of white and large blaze. We wish Emily all the best with him and Paris for the future.
Digby has now been sold to a competition home in Perth.

New stud colt for Primrose Court Stud

It has taken months of planning and hard work from all parties involved, but we are now very proud and excited to announce our newest acquisition the imported German colt "Holligrove Salzburg".
Salzburg combines truly the best German lines that are available to date being out of the highly regarded mare Bella Carmina (Bellisimo M) by the sadly now deceased St Moritz, son of the leading Dressage Sire Sandro Hit.

BELLA CARMINA - multi Champion 4yo.mare at the "Hannoverian Elite Foal and Broodmare Auction" in Verden, August 2008.Sired by former Bundeschampion winner “Bellissimo M” , her dam is the illustrious “Carmina Burana”, who in 1998was crowned “Bundessiegerstute” -the title of German Champion Mare. In 1999 Carmina Burana was 4th at the Bundeschampionat for riding horses in the 4yo.mare and gelding division whilst pregnant to Weltmeyer. The resulting foal “Walk of Fame” ended up in 2nd place at the 2003 Bundeschampionat for 3 yo. riding mares and geldings. In following years Carmina also won the title of “Louis-Wiegels-Schau” and “Ratje-Niebur-Schau”, which together with her title “Bundessiegerstute” made her the most successful mare ever in Hannover. From Carmina's family there are many famous horses, for example “Weltino” with Ellen Schulen-Baumer.
Bella Carmina herself received outstanding scores at her Mare performance testing, and at the recent Louis-Wiegels-Schau, where she was Champion, she received scores of 10's and 9's.
BELISSIMO M by Beltain- Romadour ll Highly modern sport horse stallion
Each appearance a triumph: * Topper at the 24th NRW Elite riding horse auction * Champion of the 30 day test in Zweibrucken: Ranked 1st in dressage with 9.63 and 1st in jumping with 8.77! * Outstanding winner at the Verden riding horse championships * Bundes champion (National German Championships) of the 4 year old stallions at Warendorf in 2003 * Qualified with 9.38 for the world champion ships for young dressage horses at Verden in 2004 * Reserve Champion of the 6 year old dressage horses in 2005 in Warendorf, after leading with 9.2 in the final qualifications, he was beaten by the merest of margins. His foals are admired for their outstanding types and harmonious build and their quality paces. In the last weeks of his probation time as a stallion producer Belissimo M stood proudly: no less then 11 sons were approved at the stallion classifications of Verden, Vechta and Munster-Hahndorf. Ten got a positive report and four received a premium and two at the classification capitals in Hannover and Westfalen! Also his daughters are making a name; Belissimo M produced the overall two year old champion in Bayern. His pedigree is first class: his sire Beltain was successful in the dressage ring to level S.
He comes arguably from one of Hanoverïan most popular and successful mare families. Belainï's dam SPS Ganseliesel is the full sister of the highly valued Celler progenitors Garibaldi I & II and the grand dam of the brothers Wolkenstein I & II (Bundes Champion of Celle) as well as the Grand Prix dressage horses Little Big Man, also the Celle stallion Brentano I & II and above all Beavalais (reserve World Champion WEG Jerez 2002 and Olympic Bronze medallist Athens 2004).Belissimo M's dam SPS Roxa, district champion mare and also dam of the jumper Carthago 51, is a daughter of Horse of the Century Romadour II with the highly successful thoroughbred connection of Lucius xx, a desired performance stallion of his time.
Hollingrove Salzburg will be put up for his AWHA/Hanovarian Stallion Licencing as soon as he is old enough and will later be campaigned in Dressage by myself Salzburg will then commence his stud duties at Primrose Court.
So very very exciting times ahead for us and for warmblood breeders in Australia.
First day in his new paddock in WA
Win for Digger - Wooroloo Horse Trials 30/31st May 2009
For a first run of the season and only second time eventing this was a wonderful start to Highfield Vivaldi's season.
Ridden by Deon Stokes the pair enjoyed a foot perfect weekend to win the Intro 1 senior section of Wooroloo Horse Trials and finish on a dressage score of just 36.7.The wonderful undulating XC course suited H.Vivaldi as did the good going too.It was a pretty tough class with many quality horses competiting which was great to see.
Highfield Vivaldi will now go up a level to Prelim for his next run which will be Harvey.Good luck to them both and we hope they achieve another clear run.

Five of a total of seven Dutch A-team Grand Prix horses are of German origin. Three of them are descendents of Trakehner sires. Both Totilas and Painted Black are by Gribaldi, Hans Peter Minderhoud's Nadine is by Partout/T. Gribaldi is bred by Marika Werner in Germany and is out of elite mare Gondola II. He was sold as a foal to Otto Langels, who presented him at the Trakehner Stallion Licensing in 1995. He sold at the auction following the licensing for 300,000 DM (150,000 euro) to Dutch stallion owners Joop van Uytert and Rinus de Jong. In 1996 Gribaldi was approved by the KWPN society. The black Gribaldi won the KWPN Stallion Competition as a 4-year old and was reserve champion in the Pavo Cup. Under Edward Gal, Gribaldi was a successful international Grand Prix horse until the stallion himself called it quits in 2007 by refusing to piaffe.
Gribaldi's most successful offspring are Grand Prix horses Totilas and Painted Black, while other famous get are FEI horses Gameboy, Zardin Firfod, Sisther de Jeu, Ruby and Rifradin. (Source: Trakehners International) The old year wasn't quite over when in mid-December the news was received by Trakehners International from France, that the Trakehner stallion Maestro (one of the last remaining sons of Matador in the world) had passed away.
Maestro Maestro was born in 1987 and was by the DLG champion stallion Matador, out of Maike II by Herzkönig - Maigraf xx - Hansakapitän. His dam line was that of O181B2 Malvenblüte, which originated after WWI in Gestüt Hunnesrück and traces back to Mascotte by Adamas ox, a grey mare at Trakehnen. This particular family also stands for such stallions as Marduc, Magnet, Märchenstein, Marlo, Roland, Merkur, Magister or the young Mon Baron. Maestro, who competed at M levels in dressage as a younger stallion, stood at stud in Germany (e.g. Gestüt Hämelschenburg and Gestüt St. Stephan), in Great Britain (Muschamp Stud) and then later in France for Mr. Green. Long time care taker Anais Sauvage said he was a much loved center of the household and actually roamed free on the farm, more like a giant dog than a breeding stallion.
Maestro Maestro left a number of good performance horses in Great Britain, e.g. Muschamp Impala who competed at advanced levels in eventing. As Maestro was such an international stallion, it is no surprise to see that his son Highfield Vivaldi stands at stud here in Australia. Maestro is also valued for his high quality daughters, like Gestüt Hämelschenburg's excellent Gwendolyn, a proven producer and probably a perfect example of a hallmark of Maestro's heritage: impeccable temperament. Our condolences to Anais and her partner for their loss, and may Maestro rest in peace.
Maestro's legacy: impeccable temperaments (his daughter, Gwendolyn) |
